Karla Fernanda Narvaez Ruiz

I am 13 years old and was born on February 25, 2000. I live with my parents and my sister, Natalya Guadalupe born in 2003, and my two brothers Gary Octavio born in 2005 and Angel Johayner who was born in 2011.

We used to live with my grandmother but now for many years we have lived in our own home which is near the lake.

I am in the first year of high school. I have always liked to study. For grade school I started studying in a local school but my parents wanted me to go to a better school that is not in our neighborhood. My sister and brother also attend a school that is better and out of the neighborhood. My baby brother is with my mother all day.

My father is a security guard. He works 24 hours and then is off work for 24 hours unless he fills in for someone else. My mother cleans house for half a day. We all have to go by bus to the school and to my mother's work. I study now at Enrique Flores Guevara High School which is a public school and rather far away from where I live. I like the school and think it is good.

Right now I am studying language arts, mathematics, geography, science, English and social sciences. My favorite class is English and I want to learn to speak it very well but I just started this year. I used to have some problems with my eyes and it was hard to read and study but now it is better. I didn't need glasses and the problem just changed.

I study in the morning. I get up at 5 am with my family, we leave at 6 am on the bus and I get to school at 7 am when classes start. I have to take two buses and my mother goes with me and then drops off my brother and sister and goes to work with my baby brother.

We are all home in the afternoon when I study, help my mother with the housework, and help with the cooking. If my father is home he does the cooking.

My parents support me in my studies but there is not much money in the family and so it is often hard for them to pay for all the school expenses and transportation. My grandmother tries to help but I wish I could find someone who would help me with the expenses so that I am sure I can finish high school. I would even like to go on to University but don't know how my parents could do that.
